Voyage au centre de la Terre is a classic science fiction novel by Jules Verne. It was written in 1864 and translated into English as early as 1877. In the novel a German professor believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, along with his nephew Axel and their guide Hans descends into an extinct Icelandic volcano, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards. They eventually come to the surface again in Southern Italy. Voyage au centre de la Terre is one of the best-selling novels of Jules Verne.

Jules Verne was a French author who pioneered the science fiction genre. He was born in Nantes in 1828. During his youth, he Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas who offered him writing advice. He is best known for his novels Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea , A Journey to the Center of the Earth , and Around the World in Eighty Days .


Project Bilingual is a continuing project making available great original French writers' texts along with their English translation. This edition, which offers after every original language paragraph its translation, makes both grammar and vocabulary checks as painless as possible. Idiomatic forms that could be overlooked can be easily detected.
Furthermore, large paragraphs have been broken down to much smaller units so that the check is as effortless as possible.
