Anna Lejina
0/5 ( ratings)
A Latvian Tale of Love, War, and Peace. Through the eyes of a Latvian English teacher we are led through the epochal events of the pevious century starting with the Revolution of 1905 in Latvia, the First World War, Civil War in Russia, life in the new state of Latvia, and then the great disaster called the Second World War. We see the two occupations of Latvia and then the dramatic flight to Germany constantly under Allied bombing and then, finally, safety with the British occupying forces.

The translator from the original Latvian is Atis Lejiņš, her son, who in a concluding chapter describes through his eyes how Latvia regained independence, including his encounters with the KGB and Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Susan Tosch from Australia wrote the introduction and edited the English translation.
