Winnipegger Howard Bruce has returned home from the First World War to a loving family and a job as a Royal North-West Mounted Police sergeant. The Winnipeg he has come home to is being torn apart by the largest work stoppage in Canadian history. Howard is struggling to separate the war he just left and the war at home. Adding to his troubles, Howard’s job will place him in the middle of General Strike riots.
Howard’s neighbour and good friend, Mike Sokolowski, is also finding himself in the crosshairs of conflict. The strike has left Sokolowski, a metal worker, unable to support his family. A peaceful but strong-willed man, Sokolowski knows he must attend the Bloody Saturday rallies if he ever wants his life to get back to normal.
Bloody Saturday follows Howard and Mike during the weekend of the riots, when fate will intervene and change their lives forever.
Based on real people and real outcomes, Bloody Saturday attempts to fill in the gaps of history by creating a fictional backstory for these characters.
