The Shadows of Absence

The Shadows of Absence

Elin Eriksen
0/5 ( ratings)
After a couple of lofty swings, they threw Mr Darcy into the cold, murky water…

Darcy is loath to leave Hertfordshire three days after the bewitching Miss Elizabeth Bennet accepts his second proposal. Yet he must return to Pemberley as the executor of his neighbour’s will. To avoid spending their engagement period apart, he invites the entire Bennet family, and Mr Bingley, to Derbyshire.
Elizabeth admires Mr Darcy’s compassion for the bereaved widow, but the execution of the will proves challenging, as he spends most of his days trying to determine the baronet’s successor. In the shadows of his absence, she is left much to her own thoughts and the influence of others. And after Mr Darcy’s involuntary dip in the lake, his mortification renders him even more taciturn and unsociable.
The widow was Mr Darcy’s first love, who spurned him for wealth and consequence. Lady Baslow’s rejection turned Mr Darcy into a reserved and cautious man who guarded his emotions from public display. It is up to Elizabeth to determine whether he is cold and aloof or if passion burns brightly beneath his austere mien.

The Shadows of Absence is a Regency era Pride and Prejudice novel of approximately 74,000 words. This emotional story ends in a happily ever after for our dear couple and focuses on Darcy and Elizabeth. It would be an advantage to be familiar with Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice to fully enjoy the story, because it follows canon up to the second proposal.

This work of fiction is created entirely from the author’s imagination. At no point in this body of work has Artificial Intelligence been employed to write it.
