Advent tells us Christ is near. Christmas tells us Christ is here. Scripture tells us Christ will appear!ADVENT is a time of adoration, expectation, and preparation for Christ Jesus, the promised Messiah and soon-coming King. This booklet is designed to enhance your personal and family devotions. We hope that you will read the selections daily in conjunction with an Advent wreath, perhaps at dinnertime, before going to bed, or in the morning before starting your day. Since Advent begins the last Sunday before November 30th, mid-November would be a good time to start making plans and gathering your Advent materials. The Advent wreath is a centerpiece that consists of four tall candles placed in a circle, with a large white candle in the middle. Commercial Advent wreaths are available, but it may be more meaningful if you make your own. Before each devotional reading, light the candle indicated . The first candle is purple and reminds us of HOPE. The the second candle is also purple and reminds us of PEACE. The third candle is pink and reminds us of JOY. The fourth candle is purple again and reminds us of LOVE. The white Christ Candle in the middle of the wreath reminds us of all these things and more. By Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day, all the candles will be glowing, and we trust that your heart will be warmed by the experience of drawing closer to Jesus during Advent. May these attributes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love dwell in you richly during the holiday season and every day until we see Christ Jesus in all of His glory.
