Nikki R. Haley, whose full name is Nimrata "Nikki" Randhawa Haley, is an American politician, diplomat, and businesswoman. She was born on January 20, 1972, in Bamberg, South Carolina. Haley is of Indian Sikh heritage and is known for breaking barriers as the first woman of Indian descent to serve as the governor of South Carolina and as a prominent figure in the Republican Party.Haley's political career gained prominence when she was elected as the 116th Governor of South Carolina in 2011, becoming both the first female governor of the state and the youngest serving governor in the United States at that time. During her tenure, she focused on economic development and job creation, implementing policies that attracted businesses to the state and helped lower unemployment rates.In 2017, Haley was appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations .
