Penny Brownell was lonely. She had been divorced for several years and never met anyone else she wanted to share her life with. She had also just survived a cancer scare.

So, when she met Dale Sharp in a singles bar and he seemed more handsome, intelligent, witty, and accomplished than anyone she could possibly have expected to meet there, she was impressed. As a high-achiever herself, she didn?t want to hook up with a loser.

But the more she got to know him, the more suspect, and even sinister, his behaviour appeared to be. He didn?t seem to be anyone he said he was and almost everyone who knew him wanted to get as far away from him as possible.

In short, for Penny, marrying Dale was easily the worst mistake of her life.
