Longshanks, a novelette

Longshanks, a novelette

Cynthia Felice
3/5 ( ratings)
LONGSHANKS, a novelette: Erik’s very presence among the refugees from Earth can bring trouble. Did it also mean betrayal?
The Water Baron had the planet’s ecological growth planned down to the last drop. But what of adventure, and restless youth? Erik gambled family ties and his inheritance in the wilderness seeking, with a few bedraggled refugees, the only chance he had for independence.
From the world of ECLIPSES, where Erik’s father, Aram, made the hard decisions to save the limited supply on the water-starved planet. Now the son explores the nature of power and trust among people from Earth, who leave no doubt that among them his father is a hated man.

The Water Baron's son, Erik, was brought up in the midst of his father's wealth. He feels smothered under everyone’s expectations. And he’s fed up with people treating him like he’s still a child. So he leaves it all behind and sets out to forge a life for himself that is as far away as he can get from the family dynasty. In the same tumultuous world as Cynthia Felice's ECLIPSES, Beth's and Aram's middle son disappears from home and blends in with the seemingly endless stream of colonists from Earth that threaten the ecological balance of Serensunar. Burning with ambition Erik finds himself on the frontier in a venture that needs the very skills his immensely wealthy family has but which he does not have access to. Indeed, he fears that his father will find him and drag him home against his will and try to force fit him into the family's empire.

Praise for ECLIPSES:
Publishers Weekly— are complex personalities, and though the contract between them is simple, their emotions and interactions in the 32 years the story spans are not. Felice does a beautiful job in making these characters real…it makes for a warm and rewarding novel.
