Her journey is driven by her need to come to terms with this unbearable defect, aided by the stylish and beautiful Ligeia. But is Ligeia friend or foe, and what is her link to the narrator’s first lover?

Her most mysterious relationship, however, is with Michael. Is he more than just a vampire’s prey? When her old lover returns as a rival, the story explodes into violence and revenge. But who, finally, is the avenger? And what is being avenged?

Beautifully written and tightly plotted, the novel uses ambiguity and paradox to keep the reader guessing until the final page.
