Newlywed Storm McAlpine's husband has just shipped out for 6 months at sea, leaving the Navy wife with a lot of time on her hands. One day her next door neighbor's car breaks down and Storm gives her a ride to a charity event in Santa Monica. Here, she hears about the Powder Puff Derby, the first all-women transcontinental air race.

Storm purchases a bundle of cachets from an antique store, which she expects to tell her all about the race. But she finds more than she bargained for.

THE POWDER PUFF DERBY PUZZLE is the first in a series that chronicles the history of women in aviation, from the first licensed woman pilot, Raymonde de Laroche in 1910, to the modern day. The non-fiction story is told by Storm McAlpine, who starts out her research just to fill in her free time, then becomes fascinated by the intricate history of women in aviation.
