There's no pockets in Shrouds (and no drawers in coffins)

There's no pockets in Shrouds (and no drawers in coffins)

Being told that some of the things in my book weren’t new and that people in their family had done the same, made me think about whether the information should be saved. I came to the conclusion that if no-one records what our families do, then these things will be lost forever. Some people don’t know how to cook, wash clothes, or boil an egg, simple things, yet staple things for society. If they haven’t seen mum bake, how can they pass things on to their children? We need to be able to see how far we have come, from the skills we gain in life and it’s up to us to record these facts. Without information recorded in books, we would have never known what people did in the past; we would have had to guess. So let’s not guess with this book. I have recorded all the facts I have, whether they are simple or not, in order to keep at least someone’s ordinary life alive. We are all carriers of own history and each special moment in our life sad, happy or funny, needs to be recorded, so that those who come after us will know what we did with our lives. So here it is. I shall not apologize for my simple facts, just to say enjoy them. So this is the story of my late Grandmother and her family, and her family before her.
