ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Ashley Artmann - Ashley Artmann is currently a junior at Stanford University majoring in English and Communication. She has loved her time at Stanford and grown much as a person, but her days back at Green Valley HS in Las Vegas, NV aren’t too foggy in her memory either. Ashley was an IB student who was in love with Forensics , dabbled in classical piano, and enjoyed her public high school experience to the fullest. While she had good grades with SAT and AP/IB numbers working in her favor, when it came to getting into Stanford, what made her stand out was her excellent essays.

Aya is a senior at Stanford University. She is an international student from Tokyo, Japan. Her academic interests lie in the fields of linguistics and clinical psychology . Aya loves working with children - she find their energy, curiosity and creativity contagious. She is also interested in how language shapes the mind. Her long-term goal is to become a child clinical psychologist. Aya also enjoys learning new languages, traveling and eating good food. Countries she has visited during her four years of college include Dubai, Spain, Morocco, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and Canada. Her favorite thing to eat is freshly baked chocolate chip cookies dipped in milk.

Tyler White is a sophomore at Stanford University in California. He is currently pursuing a degree in Symbolic Systems with an honors concentration in Ethics and Society. He went to school in Crystal Lake, IL and was born in Cleveland Ohio. He spent his freshman year at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before transferring to Stanford for his sophomore year. At Stanford he is a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity and sings a cappella with Everyday People, Stanford’s R&B and soul group. In the future, he hopes to either start or work for a company that allows him to work with education initiatives and ultimately wants to eradicate the racial achievement gap at all levels.

Sandy Yu - Sandy graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering. She spent her early years in the Midwest, but moved to Taiwan during the third grade. Eventually, when her family moved back to California, she was a high school sophomore and had to navigate the intimidating college application process. For Sandy, getting into Stanford was a dream come true. At Stanford, she continued her formal training in the piano, studied abroad in Japan, and was also involved in the Society of Women Engineers.
