Despite abundant research interest in scandal, there have been few transnational or interdisciplinary studies in this area. This volume explores the potentials and boundaries of literary, sociological, and historiographic dialogue as it tries to go beyond normative and functionalistic views on scandal. A focus is placed on the internal dynamics of the ambiguous and contradictory relationship between communication and event in relation to scandal.
