The Stanger is a short ghost story by Alice and Claude Askew first published in 1914.

Alice Askew and Claude Askew were English writers and co-authors of more than ninety stories, including a series of supernatural tales featuring the 'occult' investigator Aylmer Vance, first published in The Weekly Tale-Teller in 1914.

‘Aylmer Vance’ is a captivating series about the supernatural and it features an investigator of ‘the occult’ named Aylmer Vance. These engrossing and very easy-to read stories are narrated by Vance's admiring friend and chronicler, Mr. Dexter. The stories are real page-turners as this pair of ghost hunters investigate various apparitions and hauntings in a Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson manner.
