Brucey Gravy

Brucey Gravy

0/5 ( ratings)
Growing up, Mom’s special Brucey gravy on my food made everything taste wonderful. With Brucey Gravy on it, I’d eat anything. It had a powerful influence on me. Like Brucey gravy, encounters in life can completely change our flavor or simply enhance us. Throughout my life, many people have been like that special gravy for me. They profoundly impacted my life. The same is true of events and circumstances that happened. Sometimes, even Brucey gravy was hard to swallow. This book is about strong influences and me growing up. In “Brucey Gravy”, Tom and Bruce meet as small children in a neighborhood in South Minneapolis and become best friends. As they grow up together, they discover their strengths and weaknesses while their lives revolve around neighborhood friends, teachers, coaches, and peers. Both boys make significant decisions with lifelong consequences. The contrast between their families has a huge impact on the direction of their lives. Tom is from a large seven sibling family, and Bruce only has a sister. Both families impact their lives. Bruce emerges as an outstanding athlete and a strong leader. Tom greatly admires Bruce and values his friendship. Tom and Bruce have adventures that get them both into trouble as they develop and grow into adolescence. While their relationship changes as they move into Junior High and High School, their childhood friendship keeps them close as they come together in sports. Bruce gets into trouble and is not allowed to participate in sports his senior year. Tom emerges as a star hockey player while Bruce can only watch from the sidelines. “Brucey Gravy” portrays a realistic picture of friendship, struggles, adventures, relationships, and circumstances one encounters in life. It is a great resource for teachers and parents looking for teachable moments with children. It brings out endless subjects and opportunities for dialogue. Students throughout my teaching career have been influenced by the lifelong lessons learned from “my” encounters with life. Each chapter is self-contained, so you can read through this book at your own pace. However, by the time you finish, you will be smothered in Brucey gravy!
