He is older than the mountains, older than the cold of Winter, devoted to his path across dark eternities as he forges dreams out of sand. Those are legends told of Sefris, the Smyth of Glass, who makes his hermitage on the rocky heights of an island known as Lanz. One day a ship arrives carrying two outlanders, one a swordsman with a blade of nightmares, the other a musician carrying a silver trumpet. Behind them follows all manner of troublesome baggage. Yet worst of all for the Smyth is the task they set before him: to unravel the secrets of the crystalline blade known as Dhala, the Cold of the Space Between Stars. Delving into that strange matter threatens to bend the light of his being.
