This is a summary of what I have learned from 35 years of teaching mathematics in public schools. It is what I would tell a friend who wanted to become a teacher or who wanted to improve his or her teaching skills. The book begins with criteria for choosing a textbook and the planning needed before class begins. There are specific day-to-day plans for basic math, first-year algebra, and AP Calculus. Also included are memory lists, sample quizzes, and sample exams for algebra, geometry, trigonometry and AP Calculus. Chapters 6 to 14 contain suggestions from years of experience about how to present lessons, assign homework, manage class discipline, write and grade exams, and deal with parents and administrators. The conclusion includes 12 references I have used and found helpful.
