Hoo-boy, hell breaks loose and the stage is set for an apocalyptic final few issues. Looking forward to the last two trades!
Brutal. Most of this volume is taken up by one fight, but it’s both thrilling and consequential for our heroes. There are some shocking turns that I did not see coming. Bunn has done an excellent job pacing the story and keeping it suspenseful from one issue to the next, and I’m reading quickly simply because I want to know what happens. The issue detailing Griselda’s backstory is also very well done. It answers some final questions before the end, which is most certainly nigh.
Everything is going south. Becky is trying so hard to do the right thing and I love her for it. I think her reluctance to use the gun may be crucial later on. Drake has been the man Asher claims in terms of using people to achieve his ends, but he also has allies and seems to have reached a turning point in his life. Great stuff.
Still rolling along. But just realized that I am running out of trades to read....is this series really coming to an end???? Say it ain’t so. Good trade!
Brace yourselves, it's going to get wild. So much happens in this volume! The grey witch is a serious threat and she's really stirring everything up. There's manipulation, separation, betrayal, hard choices, a near death, and some actual death - or at least I think so, but you never know in this series. There's also some really interesting back story, showing how the witch was originally a normal girl. I love this series and I'm super excited for the next volume!
Man, did the pace pick up! Both the situations and the antagonists are getting more threatening, even downright scary. The protagonists are being pushed farther out on the edge, and you can feel the plot heating up as it starts to turn towards a conclusion. Good stuff.
This was unexpectedly an emotional volume, as there are indeed many bullets and many falls. Our crew returns to Brimstone to try and find a hint as to Widow Hume's whereabouts - and she catches up with them, unexpectedly - but little do they know, they've taken the bait of a much more dangerous opponent, the Grey Witch, who is about to completely show her hand. Sinclair and Becky are pushed to the absolute edge in this arc, and it seemed like a crime that the final issue was dedicated to the Gre...
(4,3 of 5 for this glorious gun-blazing ride)Stroy continues, intensifies, battling lizard-humans is fun, guns firing at a tremendous pace are for the moment replaced by a flashback to Giselda aka Grey Witch (with arty by glorious Crook) origins and then right back to action.
Much of this book is taken up with a single battle, back where the story began. But that's ok, because it's a good battle, it's written well, and the consequences at the end are going to put a heavy weight on the heroes. Nice. There's a definite sense that the story is winding up, which is good. A book like this shouldn't go on forever, and the writer should bring it to a close while his ideas are still hot. Also, there's a flashback issue with the origin of the Grey Witch, which is far deeper t...
The previous two volumes were more focused on world-building, but this one gets back into the central plot of the series heavily and with some unexpected turns. Hurtt's art is great, as usual. The sixth chapter, a flashback to the origins of the Grey Witch, was drawn by another artist who's style is not as refined or fitting to the series.
I tried to wait for the next big hardback collection of The Sixth Gun to keep going on this series. I totally failed. I couldn't stay away from my beloved (doomed) characters and the all the creepy apocalyptic tension, dark magic, and human suffering. So I should not have been at all surprised when Cullen Bunn picked up a hammer and started smashing my poor little heart to bits. The last issue in the book, the backstory dump about the Grey Witch, really dragged - but it may have been for the bes...
Conflict and a purging of the team worthy of Joss Whedon. Also, some back story on the Grey Witch.
The Sixth Gun continues to impress. The book is filled with emotions as characters deal with huge changes. The book shows that no character is safe and actions have consequences. The book introduces new menaces, one after another, and it doesn't seem like too much. The art by Brian Hurtt is still super impressive. Overall, another very good read.
Our band of heroes return to Brimstone, the town where this all began. Soon they are in for the fight of their lives as the Grey Witch, Jesup and hordes of snake men come for them and not everyone makes it out alive. I was very sad to see some of these characters go (but that's a sign of good writing, I actually care that they died). Things are looking as bad as they can for our little band of heroes by the end of the book. The last issue was an origin story for the Grey Witch.
Things get pretty crazy in this volume. The heroes are pushed to their limits and beyond as they get near their goal. This volume has lots of action, and no one is safe. It looks like this series is headed toward an interesting end. If you're looking for supernatural western action, then you can't go wrong with this series.
The story still feels fresh after all this time. It has purpose and many changes are introduced, like betrayals and more death for important characters. Even with all the magic, the fact that named characters die makes it feel realistic. They aren't invincible, especially when facing an opponent that has numbers on her side.Drake's people are reeling after their recent ordeals. Becky and Kirby have gotten close again, Gord and Asher are looking for clues on what their next step is, Nahuel and Ni...
Maybe 3.5 because the origin story for the Sixth Gun felt too Hellboy-derivative. That aside, a good installment as everything starts moving to a climax, cast members drop like flies and the end and rebirth of the world comes closer. Solid.
Becky, Drake and co. return to Brimstone, the town where their journey began a year ago (in the story – the series has been going on for several years at this point) to make their next move. Meanwhile, General Oleander Hume’s mother, the Grey Witch Griselda, sends her snakemen army led by the former Pinkerton Jesup, who also has the healing gun, to take Becky and Drake’s remaining five guns. Our heroes begin the fight of their lives as all hell breaks loose and the beginning of the end of The Si...
Effectively comprising a massive battle between the good and evil sides with the six guns as the spoils for the victor, Volume 7 in Cullen Bunn's series is a fast-paced roller coaster ride from start to almost-finish as numerous characters fall, others make momentous decisions, and the true nature of certain character's powers are revealed. The final edition of the volume is dedicated to the backstory of the biggest antagonist the series has yet seen, Griselda the Grey Witch, providing some expl...
While I have loved all the books for this title this has to be the best so far. The characters have seen so many battles and hardships that it was just about the time I started to feel they had some plot armor. This book proves me wrong. In this book the writers showed that actions have consequences and they aren't afraid to show that. This book reignites my fear that our heroes could actually fail in their quest. All of that emotional tension and they manage to continue their excellent world bu...
