Glimpses of the Moon

Glimpses of the Moon

Tavi Gevinson

2 hours and 25 minutes

“It was a kiss with a future in it: like a ring slipped upon her soul.”

Susy Branch and Nick Lansing aren’t into each other, but they share a similar problem. Susy is a down-on-her-luck socialite who doesn’t want to get a real job, and Nick is a struggling writer who’s tired of tutoring the kids of the one percent. All of their wealthier friends are getting married, to seemingly lucrative results. So, Susy and Nick devise a plan: have a wedding.

First, their elaborate engagement will go viral. Next, they’ll collect gifts and a honeymoon fund, spend a year honeymooning at rich friends’ vacation homes, and use it all as content for Susy’s new influencer persona. Then, after a year or so, they’ll cash out and finally pursue their dreams.

Susy and Nick’s scheme works flawlessly—until they start to develop feelings for each other. By sharing a secret on such a public stage, they come to know each other in ways nobody else can. A romance takes shape. But are they falling in love or simply playing their assigned roles? Where do their performances as a couple end and their real feelings begin? Navigating the transactional worlds of high society and viral stardom, Nick and Susy will have to decide what they value most and if they can trust each other—if they aren’t exposed as frauds first.

Adapted from Edith Wharton’s 1922 gem of the same name, Glimpses of the Moon sharply satirizes the business of marriage and the absurdity of social media to present an inventive vision of modern love.

Starring Tavi Gevinson, Adam DiMarco, J. Smith-Cameron, Chloe Fineman, Cristin Milioti, Gina Gershon, Arturo Castro, Talene Monahon, Ross Marquand, Jordan Carlos, Naomi Fry, Jia Tolentino and Aminatou Sow ...
