Excellent, up-to-date anthology, very useful for teaching Contemporary Jewish (American) Fiction. Almost uniformly standout stories, though students (and I) still had preferences, including, for example, Pollack, Stern, Englander, Reich, Vapnyar, Orringer, Kadish. The introduction with its endnote references also useful starting point for undergraduate research. The Majsels story was printed in a font unfortunately too small for me to read -- a shame, since I was excited about this experimental
I finally got through all 36 stories in this 592 page collection. All of the stories or novel excerpts either won or were considered for the Edward Lewis Wallant Award, which is presented annually to an American writer whose published creative work of fiction is considered to have significance for American Jews.
