It is in Cormon's studio in 1884, Lautrec learned his craft as a painter, but this artist was without influence on him, while Degas and Forain instead caused his admiration; his work is akin to them in an unmistakable manner. It is in 1891 and in 1892 that Lautrec began to work both in art lithography and poster. His first stones are: At the Moulin Rouge and The Englishman at the Moulin Rouge. in 1887 he participated in an exposition in Toulouse using the pseudonym "Tréclau", an anagram of the family name 'Lautrec'. From 1889 until 1894, Lautrec took part in the Independent Artists Salon. I paint things as they are, I don't comment. Making posters in London led him to making the 'Confetti' poster and the bicycle advert 'La Chaîne Simpson'. In London he became friends with Oscar Wilde. Of course one should not drink much, but often, said Henri Toulouse-Lautrec and in 1893 alcoholism began to take its toll. Those around him realized the seriousness of his condition. He died at the age of 36 in 1901.
His mother, the Comtesse Adèle Toulouse-Lautrec provided financial aid to the Toulouse-Lautrec museum in Albi, France, which owns the largest collection of his art. Toulouse-Lautrec created 737 canvases, 275 watercolours, 363 prints and posters, 5,084 drawings, some ceramic and stained glass work, and an unknown number of lost works. This books shows 119 Lithographs.
