"I've waited all of my life for someone like Santana, and I'm sorry, I just can't let you mess this up for me," I pleaded with Joey, but he didn't seem to be listening. I mean sure, I loved him, I always had, but he couldn't give me what I needed. He couldn't give me the life that I deserved.
"Look, Nivea, maybe I'm not making myself clear. Don't forget...I know your little secret. If you marry him...I will kill him---and destroy you," Joey said, with eyes full of hatred, or maybe it was heartbreak, it was hard to tell these days. I knew that he was serious---to a certain extent. Joey would never do that to me, he loved me too much, but I wasn't so sure that he wouldn't keep his word when it came to Santana. And then again, Joey had too much to lose to do something as stupid as commit murder. He was a pretty important man, and let's not forget the fact that he was married...to the daughter of the Mayor. That's right...he was married. How dare he try to keep me from matrimony, when we both knew that he had no real plans on leaving his wife? At that very moment, I made up my mind, I was going to be Mrs. Santana Jones, no matter what Joey had to say about it. And as far as him revealing my little secret...well...I just had to play my cards right.
"Joey, I'll make you a deal, " I said, peaking his interest.
