Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet or Kindle device.
The idea of running 26.2 miles seems crazy, right? What’s the point? And why 26.2? Why the extra .2? Why not 25, heck, why not 20 miles? The story behind the modern day marathon can be traced back to the town of Marathon, Greece. According to legend, a soldier named Pheidippides ran from the battlefield at the site of Marathon to Athens in 490 B.C. After delivering a message of victory, he collapsed and died. Not the greatest confidence booster for first time marathoners. But take comfort, technically Pheidippides was said to have only run 24.85 miles. Feel better?!
