NOSOTRAS, Opening the Door to Our Love Life, by Rosa Sanchez and Ofelia Fox reads like a romantic fantasy but it is in fact autobiographical. Both writers Rosa and Ofelia, together, tell their story.
Ofelia, wife of the owner of world famous cabaret Tropicana of Havana and Rosa, pioneer of Spanish radio in South Florida became partners in life and love and their extraordinary relationship lasted over four decades defying time and death.
In 1964 Rosa and Ofelia moved from Miami, Florida to Hollywood, California and from then on their life unfolded like a cleaned up version of Thelma and Louise combined with an updated version of The Perils of Pauline: the two faced the future with an adventurous spirit and an unshakable devotion for each other. Together they raised Rosa's son, Toto, while pursuing all sorts of creative projects.
The book is candidly written, uplifting, charming and appropriate for everyone. It extols unconditional love, exudes faith in destiny and decidedly opens, not only the door to their love life but to other spiritual concepts that slowly are coming out of the closet.
Rosa and Ofelia were described this way in the book "Women Playwrights of Diversity" a Bio-bibliographical Sourcebook by Jane T. Peterson and Suzanne Bennett, published in 1997: "Rosa Sanchez and Ofelia Fox use theater to promote social awareness and have written extensively in both English and Spanish for radio, television and the theater. They combine comedy with serious themes..."
The book in print of NOSOTRAS will be launched at the International Miami Book Fair in November of 2009.
The fact that Rosa and Ofelia dedicate the book to "Mediums, family and friends whose generosity keep the lines of communication open" says much about the two women and about part of their story.
Ofelia co-authored TROPICANA NIGHTS, published in 2005 and in 2007 Rosa published a second edition of Ofelia's CUBA, PATRIA EN LAGRIMAS Y EL MENSAJE DE LIANSU, a collection of Ofelia's original manuscripts for the radio: a diary of the first wave of Cuban political refugees.
Toto, Rosa's little boy, is now a handsome businessman with three sons. He has two partners in MAM, an Investment Banking concern, in Southern California.
Of the 180 pages of NOSOTRAS, OPENING THE DOOR TO OUR LOVE LIFE 18 have pictures that transport the reader to Rosa and Ofelia's midst.
Nobody will be disappointed with this book because it is a great love story that was begging to be shared.
