High Risk: Scottish Mountain Adventures and Misadventures, 1925 to 1986

High Risk: Scottish Mountain Adventures and Misadventures, 1925 to 1986

Iain Thomson
4.4/5 ( ratings)
High Risk, a sequel to the same author’s "The Black Cloud", describes in detail seven mountain expeditions undertaken in winter in the Scottish Highlands over the period 1925 to 1986. Those involved had to contend with unexpectedly extreme conditions that tested their powers of endurance to the utmost and, with some, even beyond.

The stories recounted in the book illustrate the challenge and adventure sought by many in the Scottish hills and the willingness of others to go to their assistance when the need arises.

A wide range of resources was used in the research, these including mountaineering club archives, RAF Mountain Rescue Team reports, magazine articles, newspaper reports, academic studies, Met Office data, police records, government records, internet websites and personal recollections.

It has a bibliography and very useful list of index items.
