Toughy: Bulldog in the Arctic

Toughy: Bulldog in the Arctic

Carl Burger
0/5 ( ratings)
A Story of the Stoll-McCracken Arctic Expedition

When Captain Bob Bartlett and Harold McCracken made their last expedition to the Arctic together in the stout schooner, "Effie M. Morrissey", they had a delightful mascot along -- an English bulldog named Toughy.

Toughy was more than a mascot -- he was a member of the expedition, and he had a paw in every pie. He sniffed polar air with relish; he loved to scamper on ice floes; he accepted Eskimo admiration with complacency and he kept the other members of the expedition ever on the alert, especially after the day when he mistook a stick of dynamite for a bone.

Toughy's story is the story of an exciting expedition in Arctic waters. It deals with capturing live specimens, stalking walrus and grizzly bears, daring perilous passages through the ice pack and discovering mummies of Stone Age Man in the Aleutians.

Harold McCracken has never told a better story. Incidentally, he presents a fine portrait of the famous Captain Bob Bartlett in action. Anyone who loves a dog will delight in this story of a real dog in an unusual background.
