The week that made Boston Strong

The week that made Boston Strong

Kat Powers
0/5 ( ratings)
On April 15, 2013, two pressure cookers filled with nails, ball bearings and fireworks exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Three were killed, scores were injured, and a metropolitan area of more than 2 million people was thrown into terror.

You watched it unfold on TV and online. Have you ever wondered what went on behind the scenes? How the press conferences were set up? Why officials said the things they officials say?

This book follows the public information officers who helped get the word out -- on social media, with reporters, with the public -- as an entire world watched.

As first responders and doctors jumped into action, there was a different sort of response that was immediately under way. Around Boston, without even talking to each other about it, men and women who straddle the fence between the news and the sources, they sprang into action. They all had a same or similar experience – no matter what was going on behind the scenes, they were going to create a united front and do everything they could to help catch the bad guys and help a community heal. They took up the slogan “Boston Strong” and because they helped present a united front, they helped make “Boston Strong” true.

“The week that made Boston Strong” is the story of the 110 hours between bombing and arrest of the suspects from the perspective of those who helped create the images you saw on TV that week. They had very different roles to play during that horrible week, but the lessons they have to share are universal: Play nice with other kids, stand up for what’s right, defend the truth and sleep well at night.
