The four Gospel texts of the Bible offer parallel accounts of the life and ministry and death of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. But there are difficulties with those accounts, summarized by the author in his preface:
“I was confronted continually with the difficult problem of determining the historical arrangement or the chronological disposition of the Gospel texts in the order of service. I realized more and more the importance of a clear survey of the chronological progression in the Gospel narrative. Frequently I was perplexed also in my efforts to harmonize one evangelist or one Gospel with the others. … Many of the more recent expositors passed lightly over the difficult points and were premature in claiming the prevalence of important divergences.”
This book answers those problems. It contains Prof. Ylvisaker’s lectures on the four Gospels, synoptically arranged. Originally published in the Norwegian language in 1905 and 1907, this English edition was translated in 1932.
