A fun riff on the idea of the Seven Samurai. In this case, the samurai are psychopaths who must find a meteor that has crashed into a Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood and has started turning people into zombies before the military nukes the city. A thrilling premise, plausible science, and some genuine scares made for a fun thrill ride of a novel.
Note: Definitely a bit biased, since I edited this novel. What can I say: zombies aren't dead yet!I'll let that sink in.Seriously, though, when I decided to publish this book, the key for me was Marsheila and Jeff's innovative spin on the genre. The use of psychopathy seemed ingenious, and what we ended up with was The Walking Dead meets Suicide Squad. And that just sounded like too much fun.Which it is.Smart, funny, and violent, this is a great read for anyone who loves zombies and wants to try

I don't think it's a secret that I'm a big fan the writings of Marsheila Rockwell and Jeff Mariotte, both separately and together, but this may be my favorite of their stories (so far)! (add fan-girl squeal)Dr. Fallon O'Meara is a neuroscientist who studies psychopaths. When a mysterious infection spreads across the Greater Phoenix Metro Area, the military is called in to help the CDC contain the spread of the disease. When the joint committee (consisting of the DOJ, NSA, Homeland Security, FBI,...
Really well written, interesting and fun readI gave this book a 5 because the authors wrote a fun book that had me interested in the characters, despite their shortcomings and character flaws. It was well written and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am really looking forward to the next book!

Oh how this book has aged. I think most people are now experts on pandemics and this book just failed in that part. There's explanation of how the sickness spreads across the population so it's kind of a muddled mission really. That's kind of problem for all zombie movies. 99% of the encounters with zombies ends with being eaten so it's not clear how more zombies are created to such a degree. Then there's no mention ever if the sickness has spread outside the city. A lot of it just doesn't stand...

Psychopaths vs Zombies! A brand new idea in horror fun is the latest novel by writing partners Marcy Rockwell and Jeff Mariotte.Fallon is a neuroscientist who has made significant progress into the minds of psychopaths. When the government calls upon her expertise create a lab on a moment's notice she's ready to help. But what will this mean for the city of Phoenix? Will she be able to save the city before it's nuked? The writing here is very strong. There was but one place where I thought the au...

Infecteds, Red-Eyes...whatever you want to call them, they're brain-eating zombiesI am so glad I read this book. Just what I needed - a good dose of zombies. This zombie offering is different - hard to do when there are so many of the genre out there right now.A virus has hit the greater Phoenix, Arizona area and has millions of people turning into creatures that want to kill you and scoop your brains out to munch on. Yum!It seems the only people who are unaffected are psychopaths... which brings...

I preordered this book on impulse because it mentioned a zombie-like plague and psychopaths being send in to save the day.And it is a nice enough read. The whole first part of the book is unnecessarily long in my opinion. Come on: people get sick and start to crave brains. Psychos don't. Send them in! End of part one.Instead there's lots of blah to set up one of the characters and a special side storyline that was also completely unnecessary in my opinion. And yes, that might be because I didn't
