Revealing the richness of their agroecological knowledge and the importance of local market that deals in various local resources, he argues that they have developed their agriculture in a unique way for which past research has found no parallel. This is an attempt to provide an alternative model of agricultural development for the people who have been marginalized from the mainstream.

About the author:

Hiroyuki Tsunashima is a Researcher of Research Center for Urban Safety and Security, Kobe University, Japan. How to link the urban poverty issue with rural agricultural development in Japan is his present research theme. He obtained a doctorate in Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Kyoto University, Japan. This book is based on his doctorial thesis. During his fieldwork in India, he was also affiliated with International Research Center for Semi-arid Tropics as a Research Scholar.
