A good read, though overall I preferred the first two volumes to this third. My favorite part was the story with Superman; I love it when Clark and Diana are BFFs.
The move to mostly issue-long stories does not do any favors to this series. The previous Sensation Comics stories were often shorter, 8-12 pages, and didn't overstay their welcomes. In this volume, most of the stories draw on too long. And most of them seem to miss the point of Diana; the characterizations are all over the place, and for the most part they feel... off. Like the story where Wonder Woman is serving as a witness to keep Cheetah locked up in Iron Heights (there's a heavy moral to t...
I don't know why people are disliking this. For me, this is the best volume between the three.
Not all stories and artwork in this compendium are equal, but all are superior to anything that DC Comics is churning out right now. This is a must read for Wonder Woman fans and comic book fans in general.
first story - 1 starreturn to gaia - 1 star. the only good thing that came from this one was seeing poison ivy as some sort of groot hahamoment of peace - 1 starbesties - 1 star. So what? We get to see how full of herself W. Woman is in this issue? What a bunch of cr*p...nine days - 1 starboth ends of the leash - 4 starsour little dance - 2 stars. It kinda reminded me of the sarcovia treaty... why, with all the innocent bystanders getting killed while she tried to save the day... and the notion
Maybe 3.5? That being said, I am ALL HERE for Diana and Clark being bros.
There's a couple of good stories, but far more are mediocre, and a few are just unfortunate.
unfortunately, i only enjoyed return to gaia + echidna this time around
Take the worst ideas DC ever had about its iconic women and throw those stories into a book. There are some things to like, especially the heavy emphasis on Diana as peacemaker, but I couldn't get past old Steve Trevor, supervillain Lois, and the multitude of Cheetah stories to truly appreciate it. Some of the artwork is just hideous too.
The theme of this collection of Wonder Woman short stories is essentially peace and unity. And it starts well with Diana, as a UN ambassador, trying to broker peace between two warring African factions. Except Ares, the literal God of War, appears and Diana fights and defeats him, showing how useful and unavoidable conflict can sometimes be. And then both sides agree that violence is wrong! Wha…?! That’s like punching someone in the face and then lecturing them that you shouldn’t punch people in...
In this volume, we see that Wonder Woman’s toughest battles usually come from human beings themselves. Try as she might to bring peace, love and joy to homo sapiens, the humans of her universe often trip up and fall flat on their faces. Men fight and argue in the midst of peace negotiations when they should be making strides towards a better future; children gripe about what isn’t fair; men get bored or frustrated with baby animals that grow up to become troublesome adults, etc. Diana finds hers...
Not as good as Vol 1. I'm giving it three stories for the Cheetah story because that focus on the damage done to non-superheros and highlights the difference between Wonder Woman and Batman. I also enjoyed the stories with Poison Ivy and Superman. First story gets bonus points for the woman in charge.
Overall, this compendium was a letdown. There were some very high points throughout the issues, but the bad points outnumbered the good. The 3 star rating is probably higher than I would give this, but I am biased in my love for Wonder Woman, even when she is poorly portrayed. Issue 11 was good, I’d say 4 stars. The art was decent, but the story is what I loved. The dialogue was SO Wonder Woman and her character was very nicely portrayed in such a short story. I liked the overall messages and th...
around 2.5. I feel like this is the weakest part of the series.
A couple stories were actually quite good. Some of them were complete garbage.
An excellent collection of short narratives featuring Wonder Woman. This collection mostly focuses on her role as a bringer of peace whether it be from wars between nations or disruptions between friends. I had been searching for a comic I had heard about where Wonder Woman officiated a marriage between two women and was incredibly excited to find the comic within the pages of this collection. I would have liked to receive more back story about the women and their narratives but unfortunately it...
Wonder Woman is my favourite female superhero and the first volume of Sensation Comics was interesting so I picked this up at the library. I did not like Besties. Diana felt very stuck up and unlike her humble self. I did like that the characters talk about shaming women for how they dress and unfair competition.I noticed that alot of the issues tackled Wonder Woman being the mediator between warring countries. Like in Vendetta, Nine Days and A Day in Our Lives (best art!). Cheetah featured two
This is by far the weakest collection of the three. I really considered giving it two stars. There're not really any stand-out stories here. There are a couple not bad ones, but there's also a couple just plain crap ones. So to separate the crappy from the okay, here are my short thoughts on each:Vendetta: Overall fun. Wonder Woman and Ares fighting over a war-torn country. Return to Gaia: Probably my favorite of the volume. Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy team up.A Moment of Peace: Some nice intera...
