Worth reading along with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill.
Highly recommended, a great reference guide to the comics and also a great jumping-off points for a huge amount of new literature.
Wow. This book and its prequels are the only things that could make the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen books better than they already are. Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill packed those graphic novels with so much Victoriana and so many layers of references that having a guidebook like this to help you is a joy.
