The general character and purpose of these books have already been indicated in the Introduction to the entire series, so that on the publication of this the second part it need only be said that each of the six vol umes in this series has a peculiar value of its own. The authors are recognized schol ars of high rank in their several fields of research, and While the task of translating the extremely involved German of some of them into good English has been at times most difficult, and something may have been lost in the process, nevertheless their fine perception of divine truth, no less than their scientific method of treatment, will appeal to the honest judgment of thoughtful men and will strengthen conviction in the validity of evangelical teaching.
