This lecture was originally delivered as the fourteenth Robert Boyle Lecture before the Oxford University Junior Science Club, on May 17, 1907. The first edition being out of print, the lecture is now reissued as No. I of a series of papers dealing in non-technical language with the problems of Eugenics. The Staff of Galton Eugenics Laboratory has found the need of some introduction to the science of Eugenics, which shall place the purport of the investigations conducted there in a simple form before the general reader. This will be the aim of the present series of publications.
