Xenophon was a Greek historian, soldier, and student of Socrates.

Xenophon is known for writing about the history of his own times and his work, Hellenica, recounts the Peloponnesian War. Xenophon also wrote several Socratic dialogues, including an Apology concerning the events of Socrates’ trial and death.

Xenophon’s most famous work, Anabasis, was inspired by his own participation in the failed campaign of Cyrus the Younger to claim the Persian throne.
