On January 31, 2011, at the age of seven, Manuel Bejarano, from General Roca, Argentina, was diagnosed with leukaemia. He began a long, hard fight, with his doctors and family exhausting every possible treatment. He overcame two relapses but the third was too much, and he passed away peacefully in his parents arms on Friday, May 11, 2012. Only that morning he had seen the caterpillars his school friends had collected for him hatch into butterflies. And along with the butterflies, this story was born.
The book was written, edited and illustrated by teachers and students at Manuel's school, and is being sold with the aim of raising funds for palliative care and research into infant cancers.
Sixty percent of the cover value goes to organisations directly involved in the treatment of children, particularly from poorer communities, from purchasing much needed, expensive medication to providing bedding and toys, or covering transport costs and accommodation for family members.
By buying this book you are helping thousands of children like Manuel when they most need it, and providing comfort and support to their loved ones at the most trying time of their lives.
Thank you.
