As the youngest child of a pastor, she’s been pampered and protected by her parents, and she’s more than a little tired of it. Her expressive blue eyes and beautiful face are in stark contrast to her fierce spirit, and make Mae feel like a fish out of water in her parent’s home. As Valentine’s Day approaches, Mae and her Bible Study friends overhear another young woman talking about heading West as a mail-order bride, and Mae decides that is her ticket out of her parent’s home, restrictions, and rules.

If she must marry, it will be to a man she chooses, Paul Randall, and she can’t wait to head west where women have more rights and freedom.

When Mae arrives in Arizona, tired and anxious, she finds that things aren’t quite as expected, and reflects upon her father’s parting words. Paul finds himself in a state of confusion and concern as he becomes mesmerized by the beauty and spirited independence of a woman who refuses to let go of her dreams, and expectations.
