It's January 1947, and a gruesome discovery is made in a vacant lot in Leimert Park, Los Angeles - the body of a woman, mutilated and sliced in two at the waist. The dead woman, identified as Elizabeth Short, was soon nicknamed 'the Black Dahlia' by a press that was eager to sensationalise such a lurid murder case.

The case has never been solved, despite the fact that over 60 people confessed to the crime at the time. Short was at times unfairly portrayed as a victim of her lifestyle, with the press focusing on a number of men with whom she had allegedly had sexual relations. Over the years, a number of names have been advanced as possible suspects in the case, along with possibility of a potential cover-up and conspiracy on the part of authorities determined to hide the involvement of a prominent individual.
