cute, fluffy and diverse <3
I really enjoyed this little graphic novel collection! ('Jonesy' collects issues 1-4.) In some places, it did feel a little young at times, and a little... immature? - I couldn't tell who the audience were meant to be. Perhaps middle grade levelled students, because that seemed to be the age of the main characters. ANYWAY. Jonesy has a really cool "superpower" - she can make people fall in love! However, her curse is that she can't cause someone to fall in love with her. It's a really sweet prem...
Super cute & fun pop punk MG comic. I appreciate having a girl that seemingly rejects traditional femininity still be unashamedly in love with pop music star. Jonesy is headstrong, acting first in big bold moves. She's learning to be a good friend and think of others. It's hard when you're an only kid of a single parent. It's easy to think of only yourself...because there's been only yourself for so long. I love her donut shop running dad. I'll be continuing this for sure!
Thought this was such a cute story. This is a story about a girl who is not popular, but has these "magical powers" to make people love anything she chooses. I can not wait to continue with the series.
Super adorable, definitely geared towards a younger teen audience. I love the intersectionality of the characters, although the storylines left me feeling a bit unsatisfied (no real conclusions or consequences to be found). The art style is a lot of fun, and it kind of reminds me a bit of old-school Archie comics - zany adventures that don't really go anywhere.
Well I picked this up based on the vibrant colors and fun art. I was very disappointed in the book. Better perhaps for younger readers. I am not going to continue with this book.
hey goodreads peeps, do you know about a thing called hoopla? let me tell you about hoopla, because i, actual genuine working librarian did not know of this service until today(i don't do public library digital subscriptions in my job. also to be entirely accurate i had heard of hoopla, i'd just never used it and only knew it in the vague way where i could maybe describe it to you but it would not occur to me to try it out)ANYWAYS. hoopla is a library subscription service that lets you read comi...
Very enjoyable comic. Reminds me a little of Daria.
Man, I love Jonesy. I was in a sad comic book funk where I was reading a bunch of serious, sad stuff. I told my friend I needed a reprieve and they got a faraway look in their eyes, tapped their fingers together and whispered, "Do you know Jonesy?" I did not, but now I do. Jonesy is a Latina teen with an adorable ferret, a gig at her dad's donut shop, a weekly zine she produces, and SECRET LOVE POWERS. Jonesy's SECRET LOVE POWERS cause all sorts of silly problems when they result in outcomes she...
Beautiful art and lovely positive LGBT inclusion for everyone, but just not my favorite storytelling or humor.
I love Jonesy's voice. This was quite nearly perfect. I mean you have a cynical adorable teen, Valentine's Day, and **SECRET POWERS**. What else could you want?
Seriously, I could just fill this entire review with nothing but heart-eyed emojis and that would basically sum it up. Jonesy is a fierce enthusiastic love machine turned up to 111. But wait, no smarmy treacle here, Jonesy is also smart and snarky and pissed off a lot of the time. In other words, she's a typical teenage girl, with some very unusual powers, and I love her so much.
I found this comic in my hoopla account when I was searching through my comic recommendations and I decided to give it a read. I loved the cover and the plot sounded interesting to me. I came in thinking of a longer story in mind, but this comic was different than I expected. It was short, to the point and funny in its own way. I liked Jonesy's character and her pet, I wanna say ferret (excuse me if I have the wrong animal pet). I love different types of carnations and doesn't matter what color,...
2.5 stars. The art style wasn't my thing. It's so colorful that it simply gets obnoxious and no one looks like a human being. It bothered me to such a degree that I couldn't get into the story. The book was also way too cheesy. The humor is very middle-grade, and wasn't my thing. Altogether, not a great graphic novel.
If you're into stories about middle schoolers or early high school (eg. "Degrassi" and "Mean Girls") with leads / prominent characters of color you'll probably like this series. Sadly for me, it skews a bit young, story-wise, perhaps intended more for the current "Girl Meet's World" target demo, rather than just *any reader* interested in stories about characters of this age.
Jonesy is about the self-titled sassy character that can make people fall in love with anything but her. This graphic novel is colorful, simple, and full of different people. Jonesy is a young Mexican (I think) girl with divorced parents and massive hair. Her father makes donuts and hilarious dad-puns. Her friend Susan is black and likes girls. It's hard to tell with the color scheme, but I'm not sure there's even white characters. There isn't really an overall plot, but rather each chapter is it...
Vibrant colors, cute characters and over the top hijinks. This is a fun graphic novel full of interesting (and diverse) characters, hilarious situations, and just plain bizarre twists.Jonesy has a special power, the ability to make people fall in love - with anything. Well, except it doesn't work on Jonesy herself, which makes valentines day a real bummer. So, of course Jonesy decides to pull a prank on the most popular girl.It was funny with that, but what really got to me was the fact that Jon...
Very diverse cast of characters, but the main character is just so annoying to me that I can't get into the story. I enjoy graphic novels, this the artistic style of this particular one isn't my cup of tea. (I did love her fathers's 'dad jokes')
Sounds more like a children's book for me but includes some words that young adults use. The art is fun. The style looks like something I can see on tv. I was interested with Jonesy, but unfortunately can't say that I liked her, though I don't necessarily hate her either. It sounds like something for kids instead. The humor also isn't just for me.T/CW: bullying
Curious to see where this us going.
