Things Happened for a Reason

Synopsis

One pleasant spring night in Barcelona, two groups of people celebrated their bachelor and bachelorette party at the same nightclub.

Maria is beautiful and graceful young woman who dreams of marrying a handsome man who will love her and show her an understanding of her erratic and moody character. The night before she will finally marry her long-time love, she meets Andres— a handsome and manly man, whose charm she couldn't resist. He’s here to celebrate his own wedding, too; but the two end up together in Andres’s hotel room.

The two part ways, and Maria and Andres get married on the same day in two different cities. A week later, Maria and her husband come to visit his new business partner who turns out to be the man with whom she made love after her bachelorette party. Andres insists that they continue to see each other while she refuses him because of the guilt she felt for cheating on her husband.

A few weeks later, she finds out that her husband has a child with another woman. That knowledge almost destroys her, because she was trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant after her then-boyfriend and now husband forced her to have an abortion when they were teenagers. She decides to leave him and run away with Andres to London.

It has been several months since they arrived in London. They are finally able to relax and enjoy their passionate relationship without remorse. Maria learns that she is pregnant again, and she and Andres are very happy because they will become parents. However, Maria's husband manages to find them , and he goes to London to drag his wife back home. When they met again, Maria tries to get away from him, gets hit by a car, and then loses the baby.

Maria is desperate because she has lost a child for the second time. Andres tried to comfort her in all possible ways. He promises her that he will always be with her and that he wants to finally get things done with her husband, by getting a divorce so Maria can get married to him.

When they return to Spain, many things in the lives of their families have changed. They agree that Maria should temporarily live with her best girlfriend Dina while things are still being resolved about divorces. While here, Maria goes to her gynecologist for a checkup and finds out that she would never be able to be a mother again. She is crushed by that knowledge and she suffers unbearably. Maria realizes that she has no right to deny to Andres the possibility of having children with another woman and leaves him to flee to Paris. He goes after her and, after few days, manages to convince her that he loves her, and that that's the most important thing for him.
