5 Words: Crime, family, love, betrayal, cult. That was fantastic. This series is just incredible. The thing that I love the most about this series is the evocative descriptions of the North East. More than the twisting, turning story, more than the intense chemistry between the characters, more than the amazing DCI Ryan, more than the history, it's the descriptions that have me coming back time and again.Read a passage. Close your eyes. Get lost.I love the historical influences in the story. I lo...
HEAVENFIELD by author L.J. Ross is the third in the series (DCI Ryan Mysteries #3). I have read the previous two book in the series; Holy Island and Sycamore Gap, but I loved this one the best. I recommend reading these in order. This is a fast paced crime thriller set in the North East of England. The plot is believable and the characters come alive in this setting. “When a man is found dead at the remote church of Heavenfield, DCI Ryan is the only other person for miles around. The police have
.Firstly I strongly suggest you read the first 2 books before this one. Another excellent story in the series, more and more is revealed about the secret society and characters past. Lots of action and gore, plus some historical facts. On to book 4 now.
First let me thank Barbara Rogers for recommending me this book and since this a third one I just had to read from the start this series! :)Oh, thank God!!! They've finally defeated the Circle (or did they?...)!!!I wouldn't hold up my breath on that...Still it seems that they did it! Yeah! Here the action was lightning fast! Thing kept happening so fast that I could almost see the unraveling of Circle's main players! Sometimes it seemed like it was happening almost too fast. The last head of the
4★The Circle. Weird, wicked and evil. As soon as the police plan to question someone, they turn up dead. One suspect is already in prison – couldn’t be him. Or could it? The story opens with a chilling death, as Ross’s previous two books have. The location is equally scenic, and the beauty of the place makes the activities of The Circle even worse.“The sun made its final descent into the horizon at its back, casting deep amber rays over the fields while stars began to pop high in the darkening s...
This is third in a series featuring DCI Ryan. HOLY ISLAND and SYCAMORE GAP were the first two books .. I highly recommend reading these in order. After receiving a text message that he should go to a remote church of Havenfield, DCI Ryan finds a dead body. The body of a man who has been involved with the Circle ... a satan-worshipping group of rich, powerful men and women. They will stop at nothing to protect themselves. As luck would have it, local law enforcement walks in as Ryan is standing ove...
Heavenfield is the third book featuring DCI Ryan and follows on from the events in Holy Island and Sycamore Gap: A DCI Ryan Mystery. These have been getting better and better. This one is definitely my favourite. The history that is weaved into the story and the atmospheric settings in the North East of England combined with the fast-paced, clever plot and the fantastic characters made this an excellent crime thriller. I would love to see Ryan, Anna, MacKenzie and Phillips investigating other ca...
I read this some time in early November or late October. I've really been enjoying this series. DCI Ryan is suspended and in the doghouse at work but there are secret machinations behind the scenes as someone plots to take over the Circle - that secret and deadly, devil-worshipping organisation that has people in high places and exerts too much influence. As Ryan is a thorn in the Circle's side the aspiring new leader tries to eliminate him. Can Ryan clear his name and prevail against the unseen...
I have read the first two in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this book was just not for me. The story felt like it dragged out, like it was being forced. The writing seemed to stall at critical times and I found myself looking back through the pages to see if I missed something. Don't get me wrong, L.J. Ross is a very talented writer and I would definitely read more from her in the future, this one just didn't do anything for me.
I had been saving Heavenfield since its release because I didn’t know when the next installment of the DCI Ryan series would be released. And then I saw the cover reveal on FB and it’s coming soon so needless to say I hopped onto my kindle straight away to get into it! As you all know, I love a good series and LJ Ross’s books are no exception. Reading these books is like catching up with old friends. There’s comfort in picking up the books because you know you won’t be disappointed.I don’t like
If I told you that this was the third book in this series that I have listened in the space of a week, then you’ll probably be able to guess how much I am loving it. From that very first introduction to DCI Ryan and team up on Holy Island, I have been hooked and each story has been cementing my love more. After two cracking tales in Holy Island and Sycamore Gap, could Heavenfield keep the pace and my attention. Oh by ‘eck yes. This instalment brings the reader and DCI Ryan full circle, back to th...
Three words to describe the feel of this novel..... Evil, Paranoia and Triumph!A simply stunning conclusion (I think) to the saga of The Circle, which has stealthily creeped across author LJ Ross' first three novels. I have read all three in quick succession; I couldn't get enough of Anna, Ryan and his team. The books show extraordinary talent from a new author & each book has outclassed the previous in terms of exceptional writing, thrilling plots and characters that have such depth you can't he...
It was great to catch up with Ryan again. Even though he still very much has his demons to overcome, we certainly see a more lighter and a touch of the romantic side to him. This brought a whole new light to the story and made it even more enjoyable.Theres a reference to Cabot Cove in the story which of course is where the famous Jessica Fletcher lives. (A big murder/mystery TV show in it’s day just incase you haven’t heard of it). Even though this series is very much one of mystery and suspense...
Stunning mystery...Having read and enjoyed the first two books in the DCI Ryan series, I was thrilled when the author offered me an ARC of her newest instalment, Heavenfield, and as soon as I received it I started reading it straight away. And once again I found myself lost in beautiful Northumberland... As a lover of history, I'm always keen to discover and learn about magnificent historical locations and buildings and ancient events and battles. And reading this author's books I always end up
