Punjab in Pakistan during the monsoon of 1986, a day before the Islamic festival of Sacrifice. Ali, a young boy, has been ordered by his grandfather to take his prized goat to the Lahore market in time for the ritual. Ali waits by the road for the pre-dawn bus, unsure if the journey he’s about to undertake is another one of his grandfather’s tests. Ali doubts his grandfather’s motives, as he never manages to replicate the same story twice about his dead parents or his clan.
Armed with just his wits, his adventure into the steamy cauldron of Lahore unravels into a deadly race against time.

The three interwoven sections of the novel FIVE RIVERS are set against the backdrop of the turbulent social, political and military history of Pakistan and they take the reader, back and forth through a fractured chronology, on a suspenseful journey from Pakistan to England, India and Bangladesh.
