Ukraine. Waiting for a Hero. Kostyrko, Ravski

Ukraine. Waiting for a Hero. Kostyrko, Ravski

Ziemowit Szczerek
5/5 ( ratings)
The album accompanyies the exhibition Ukraine. Waiting for a hero. Kostyrko, Ravski is a small show of artworks by two Lviv artists of the middle generation, who often work with each other: Volodymyr Kostyrko and Yevhen Ravski. Their paintings, disturbing in their form and content, are like a sensitive seismograph capturing the pulse of recent events.

Using themes from the history of early art, on the one hand they address their message to the few who are literate in symbols and signs, but their aesthetics of hyperrealism and kitsch are powerful enough to alarm or move others too. The works are accompanied by three texts: by Borys Filonenko, Żanna Komar and Ziemowit Szczerek, who describe Ukraine, as well as Kostyrko’s and Ravski’s art, in the context of their own experiences.
