When the priest selects Kalima to be one of the honored children being considered for the glorious day of atonement, Kalima is sure there must be some mistake. She is the bastard daughter of a man she’s never known—certainly not the kind of person the great god Eris would consider worthy to atone the world of its sins. But the priest’s word is law, and so Kalima joins the others that were selected in the white stone palace, the home of the holy race of Sahnsor, to await further instructions from the priest and their god.

But while in the palace, Kalima begins to suspect that the Sahnsor are hiding something, a truth that will make her question everything she’s ever known about her faith, her god, and even what she knows about herself.
