‘Once upon a tribe’ is a book that is really only compiled by Pete Mckenna and Ian Snowball. ‘Once Upon A Tribe’ is a collection of personal memoirs and interviews from those people who participated and contributed to the numerous youth culture sub-groups that have been born out of the U.K since the 1950’s.
Once Upon A Tribe is a collection of accounts that celebrates the youth cultures passion for style, music, wanting to be different to the ‘norm’ and this is demonstrated through the various youth groups of Mods, Skinheads, Northern soulies, punks, Ravers, football Casuals and so on.
The contributions in the book are from people like Gary Bushell, Paolo Hewitt , Bob Manton , Eddie Piller , Geoff Blythe , John Hellier and ‘normal folk’ and many more who simply lived their teenage years doing what they loved to do as it mixed itself up with music, fashion, football etc.
The book also puts forth an argument that these ‘tribes’ no longer exist in modern youth culture and how in opinion of the authors this is a shame. An original and unique book that deals celebrates youth culture with a fresh approach.
