Marcus a Cork-born Jew, was a novelist and short story writer as well as an anthologist and editor. He established the weekly New Irish Writing pages in the Irish Press in 1969 and was the newspaper’s literary editor for many years. Through New Irish Writing he made an incalulable contribution to Irish literary life.
