As soon as Jonuke lifted the cover, the book flung open, its pages whirring past his fingers as if an invisible hand was searching for an exact page. It stopped suddenly and the words sprang from the page, swirling above the book creating a soft glow. A scene unfolded, revealing the Elite closely guarding a group of Freemen.
"Let it be made known among the people that we are keeping the prisoners here. The Drek will attempt to liberate their friends, and this time they will not escape," the Karakan said darkly. The scene changed. Jonuke saw his uncle Renden planning a daring rescue, just as the Karakan had predicted. The next scene showed Renden in chains.
"Dispose of the prisoners immediately," commanded the Karakan coldly and then the book slammed shut. Jonuke’s face drained as he realized this was Renden’s future unless he did something about it….
