This is the original edition of Roger Williams's famous account of the language and culture of the Native Americans in the vicinity of his settlement in Providence . He published this book in London during his first return visit, and it was quite influential in English intellectual and governmental circles, providing impetus for the Parliament, then in a civil war with King Charles I, to grant a charter the following year to the new colony of Providence Plantations , which later became Rhode Island.

The complete title is: "A Key Into the Language of America: or An help to the Language of the Natives in that part of America, called New-England. Together, with briefe Observations of the Customes, Manners and Worships, &c. of the aforesaid Natives, in Peace and Warre, in Life and Death. On all which are added Spirituall Observations, Generall and Particular by the Authour, of chiefe and speciall use to all the English Inhabiting those parts; yet pleasant and profitable to the view of all men: by Roger Williams of Providence in New-England."
