Daily Bread is the Bible reading guide that aims to help you hear from God as you read the Bible. If you've ever asked the question, 'What possible relevance can this verse have for me today?' or 'What difference does this passage make to my life?' then read on...
In this quarter of Daily Bread we come across some individuals who rate quite low in terms of their ‘God-likeness’! There’s Jacob, for a start, whom we meet in our Genesis readings – crafty, self-centred, and up for anything if it gets him what he wants. Then there’s Samson – a man marked out for God’s service, but whose life reflects anything but godly living. And what about Gideon, who achieved great victories yet whose anxiety levels put some of the world’s worriers in the shade?! Or Habakkuk, a prophet who gets impatient with God and tells him so?! Yet all these characters are in the pages of the Bible because, whatever their personal failings and deficiencies, God used them in a particular way for the salvation of his people.
