For a moment, just imagine that you were one of this man's clients because it will shock you.
Client seduction and the killing of abusers were part of the work of a hypnotherapist who turned the great tools available for helping people into weapons that were used to harm the attractive and to hurt people who the therapist found repugnant.
Like a priest or doctor, a hypnotherapist hears things that must be kept private. Jacob Avebury was more than aware of that. He knew that knowledge is power and power can be used to achieve goals. When used with hypnosis then suggestions can encourage people to act outside their usual standards of behaviour.
Some clients bring strong beliefs about the magical effects of hypnosis with them. That can make them vulnerable to what the therapist wants them to do.
They will believe that he can make them act out what they have the urge to do, but which is hidden in their minds. They need to carry out what they are told to do under a cloak of mystery that they can blame if they are made to look foolish or guilty.
Come what may, a therapist only sees the victims who seek help rather than perpetrators who hurt them.
For some, seeming is being. The tricks learnt as a stage hypnotist were used to distort the practice of therapy into a deadly entertainment for Jacob.
REVIEWS
This work is different on so many levels. The book explores one man's quest to right the obvious wrongs of abuse and worse.
What becomes clear at an early stage, is just how complex our avenger really is. There are twists and turns aplenty
and the resultant mayhem is never as clear-cut as you imagine it to be.
Should I ever need the services of a hypnotherapist, I think I would be looking for a personal recommendation, as I
wouldn't want to be left alone with this guy in a lucid state, much less under hypnosis.
Clever and original, I got the distinct felling, that here was an author who actually knew something about his subject.
Great read !
Although the main character wants to appear to be a knight in shining armour on the inside this devious man is a murderer and an abuser himself. The plot is good and the possible misuse of hypnotism well captured. The book is a good read and enjoyable.
It is clear, with all the abuse scandals that are now emerging, that some people in the helping professions would have used their position for personal and sexual satisfaction. Definitely don't read it if you are going to visit a hypnotherapist!
This is an unusual and gripping narrative. Jacob Avebury teaches himself hypnotherapy and uses it not just to make big money but also to have sex with some of his clients. But then he wants to mete out justice on the abusers of his clients: paedos who have abused boys from carehomes, pimps who have battered their partners, a big drug baron who has sold drugs to kids, and paedo MPs who have escaped justice by influence in high places and expensive lawyers. Avebury gives his clients hypnotic instructions to do the things he wants done to their abusers. But things are coming to a head. The police have honey-trapped him. We are left in suspense. Will he get away with all he has done?
A good read.
This is an entertaining book which takes the subject of hypnotism and hypnotherapy to a new and dangerous level. A hypnotherapist uses his skills to wreak revenge on those who have abused both his clients, his own family and indeed himself.
